You and me! You and me!
Every year Valentine's Day comes, comes and goes again. It is a beautiful day when couples, lovers and also my wife and I tend to do something special together. Now we have found a way to extend this great feeling and being together for the whole year. What is it that makes our time together great? Of course, board games and my fantastic jokes!
There are a lot of games that are specifically designed and made for two players - you and your significant other, a close friend or someone else you want to spend time with. And yes, as you already know, you don't have to wait for a holiday to use a board game as a great reason for the two of you to be together. But Valentine's Day is definitely a good start. Which game to choose? Here, I have played these games with my wife or with another friend (it's okay - the wife knows).
Codenames: Duet
Codenames has become one of the most famous party games in the world. In the game, teams compete against each other by saying the right words, following the clues given by the team captain. "Codenames: Duet " is a special version of the game to be played by two, and both players are on the same team. Both try to give each other the right clues to find the right words and win.
Saboteur Duel
Who doesn't know the game "Saboteur" ? This was a rhetorical question, because the game is already a classic among Baltic families and friends. What to do if you want to play "Saboteur" for two? In the Saboteur Duel variant, there is no doubt as to who should be stopped, as it is the other player. Of course, there's a troll in the middle, but otherwise this is a fantastic way to enjoy Saboteur for two.
PS If you still don't know what "Saboteur" is, it's a mafia-type game where dwarves try to get gold, and the saboteur tries to stop them. But who is the saboteur?
CLASS
Have you played air hockey? Fast and dynamic games? Do you like to have a good time? If the answer to at least one of these questions is "YES", then you will definitely like the game "KLASK" . The rules are very simple - whoever gets 6 points first wins. Points are scored by sending the ball into the opponent's "goal". How it is done? By moving a special magnet around the field (here is the analogy with air hockey). There are a few other ways to earn points, but this is the main one. This is the only game on the entire list that you can start playing right away as soon as you sit down to it because there are very few rules.
Eridanos
Have you ever played the game "Flag" or the board game "Stratego" on the computer? The closest explanation would be that "Eridanos" is a version of these playing cards, but of course with various changes and improvements. Players with their fleets fight to be the first to conquer 3 islands. At the beginning of each battle, players secretly deploy their fleet and then try to defeat the other player. In the game, you have to know how to bluff, plan and be more cunning than your opponent.
Pag, isn't this just for two players?!
Sometimes you want a game that's great for two, but if another couple is coming over, or someone who doesn't have a couple (or a bag of ciss), these next games are great for either of those situations.
Carcassonne
Another game that could be called a modern classic is Carcassonne . It is a game with very simple rules, but with a lot of options and decisions. Together, players create a playing field with cities, roads, meadows and monasteries, each of which earns points. All a player does on their turn is draw one space and then add it to the overall landscape. Trying to finish your big city, or maybe bothering another player? Each lot and playing field will be completely unique.
The winged ones
I would like to say that "Winged" is the most beautiful game from this whole list. Players try to get as many victory points as possible by playing bird cards in a forest, grassland or wetland. Each bird is unique and helps the player gain points in a different way. Already this month, the expansion of the game -"Birds of Europe" will land on store shelves, which will add more familiar birds to the game.
"EXIT" series
Do you know what a breakout room is? Yes? Great, because EXIT is like a breakout room in a box that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home on the sofa or at the table. Don't you know? This is like a breakout room in a box that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home on the couch or at the table. Players solve tasks together, solve riddles and do various other things that should not be told in order not to spoil the surprise.
Flamecraft
"Pūkītivus", "Asta pasts", "Pūķi u stūķi" and "Pico šurp" are just some of the shops that you can visit in this colorful village. Here, dragons live amicably with humans, and by visiting shops, they get resources to cast various spells. Flamecraft is very colorful and cute, and there is a very good chance that your wife or girlfriend will like it and therefore be more likely to play it (you can't see it, but I'm squinting one eye as I write this).
Latvian War of Independence 1918–1920
"Latvian War of Independence 1918-1920" is a cooperative game with 3 different scenarios that cover 3 stages of the War of Independence. Don't worry, because you don't need to know anything about the Latvian War of Independence, but you will definitely learn a lot. Players work together to recruit soldiers, roll dice to determine the outcome of battles, treat the wounded and supply the entire army while preventing the enemy from capturing Riga.
Clever
"Clever" looks like a simple dice game, but you have never experienced so many options and strategies in 6 dice and on one piece of paper. On your turn, choose one die and fill in the corresponding space on your sheet and then enjoy how well you have planned everything and how, for example, filling in the blue number creates a chain reaction, and you can fill in the green one, which again allows you to fill in the third one. And that was just the first die you picked. Smart!
Pyramido
Who hasn't wanted to build something as grand as a pyramid? "Pyramido" players choose special dominoes from which they will build a pyramid. As in dominoes, the placement of the squares is important, and by cleverly placing them, you can score more victory points. Of course, when you choose a field for yourself, you follow so as not to help other players, because healthy competition always stirs blood in relationships (only, please, only figuratively - no fights!).
The main thing is to spend time together!
Whichever game you choose, the main thing is to remember that the time we spend with the people close to us is the most important and the most precious. Even if I already lost to my wife once in "Winged"!
