Be responsible - play for two in 2021

Just like last year, this year too we are forced to spend evenings at home without meeting friends, family and acquaintances. However, as you know, a small company is not an obstacle to quality time spent playing board games! If you spend the evenings with a loved one, a family member or a roommate, then it is definitely worth including an excellent board game that can be played for two in the repertoire of the day!

Two-player games can be very different - from simple abstract games to complex, thematic adventures lasting several hours. In addition, it is also possible to play games designed for a larger number of players.

Chess - a classic that has survived to this day

One of the most classic games for two players is undoubtedly chess , which has especially grown in popularity in recent years. There are, of course, several reasons for this - the popular TV series "The Queen's Gambit", which took the world by storm last year, and online chess tournaments featuring various streamers and other Internet celebrities. Although you can easily play chess on the Internet, the feeling of lifting beautiful and high-quality wooden pieces is incomparably more enjoyable.

The rules of chess are primitive and simple, but the strategy in this game is unimaginably deep. That's what makes this game so exciting to play again and again!

"Cosmos" two-player games

If you want a game that isn't more than a thousand years old, then one of the games in the Kosmos two-player series is definitely worth checking out. The most popular of them are "Lost Cities", "Imhotep: The duel" and "Targi".

The board game "Lost Cities" has won several game awards and was developed by one of the most famous game authors of all time - Rainer Knicia. In this game, players go on one of six expeditions, which are represented by cards of different colors. By playing the expedition cards, the player gets points, at the end of the game the player with the most points wins. But there is a catch! Expedition cards can only be played in ascending order, and when starting a new expedition, the player loses 20 points. Therefore, you should carefully evaluate your moves to earn points, not lose them!

Become the best architect in ancient Egypt with the game "Imhotep: The Duel" . In this game, two architects place their workers on a 3x3 square, just like playing "Tits and Zeros". Later, these workers obtain the corresponding resources from nearby ships. They use the obtained tokens to build pyramids, obelisks and other structures that give points at the end of the game. Keep your eyes on your opponent, because he might have seen exactly the chip you want! This is a two-player version of the Imhotep board game, which Zee Garcia of Dicetower has found superior to its original sibling.

Perhaps the most strategic of the three games is "Targi" . In it, players take on the role of the leaders of the desert Tuareg tribe and trade local and distant goods to obtain gold and help their family. As the game progresses, they use their minions to acquire various goodies and options on the table, fighting for resources, tribal cards, and victory points. Targi is an exciting two-player staff placement game where players are dealt new tribal and benefit cards each round, so you have to constantly adjust your strategy. In 2012, the game was nominated for the prestigious "Kennerspiel des Jahres" as one of the best expert games.

Dynamic gambling on the table

If you don't want to think a lot, but prefer to enjoy a simple skill game, then "Klask" will be your right choice. This is a magnetic board game similar to air hockey, only instead of the usual goal, there is a hole to hit the ball. The game is fast and dynamic , and the rules are so simple that you can literally cover them in a minute.

Solve mysteries together

If the tension and determination of the winner causes arguments and fights in your house, then two-player co-op games are definitely worth looking into. One of the most popular mystery solving games is Exit. You may already be familiar with the game Abandoned Shack from the Exit series, but this year it's joined by Secret Lab , another breakout board game story. Most people like to play these games in pairs.

If there are currently two versions of the game available in Latvian, the range of these stories is significantly wider in English. In the future, more and more of these games will also be available in Latvian.

As Halloween approaches, solve some spooky mysteries in Arkham Horror: The Card Game, a board game inspired by horror author HP Lovecraft. Feel like an early 20th century investigator who encounters seemingly unimaginable dangers in Massachusetts. Various foul, hairy, horned and tentacled creatures have begun to take over the local town. Fight them, investigate the events and stop the summoning of the ancient gods!

This is an LCG or Living Card Games game. This means it has countless expansions, new campaigns and stories. In addition, each of the campaigns can be played multiple times, as different cards will appear in each game and players can make new decisions that will affect the further course of the game. Also, players can play with different investigators, each with their own strengths and Achilles heels.

Currently playing alone, later with friends

A game for two people doesn't have to be something that can't be played by more people. If you want a game that you can play alone now, but later with friends, then you should consider games like "Carcassonne" , "Pandemic" , "Dominion" and "Ticket to Ride" . All of these games have become modern classics that can be played by two or more players.

In addition, limited anniversary editions of Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride: Europe are currently available.

Regardless of taste and preferences, everyone has the opportunity to find the game that suits them. What will be your favorite game during this home stay?
